You know what this is.
"You say the nicest things, sweetheart." Smiling beatifically Yagyuu rested his head against Arthur's shoulder.
"Only because I have the best inspiration," Oshitari pulled Yagyuu's legs into his lap, a smirk on his face as the taxi driver started to seem uncomfortable. "To Tokyo Tower, please."
"You're such a gentleman." Pressing closer against Yuushi Yagyuu settled comfortably, only a faint glint of his glasses giving away that the taxi driver's discomfort amused him. "This is a date I will never forget.
As Oshitari caressed Yagyuu's knee softly, he murmured, "And it's not even over yet. We have a bent tower to scale, muffin."
"You make me think we should stop by a sweets shop later." Tipping his head up towards Arthur licked his lips, a flash of warm pink against pale lips.
It took every fiber of Arthur's being to not laugh at how ridiculous their conversation was. The tempting pink of Yagyuu's tongue helped his case. "You're so sweet, it would leave me no choice but to buy the whole store."
"Ah but if I am so sweet it would lessen my worry that you might...eat me." Biting his tongue Yagyuu managed to keep a straight face even as he caught the mortified look the can driver threw them through the rearview mirror
"But..." Oshitari's face dropped into a morose expression "...I'm afraid my appetite cannot be assuaged through candy alone. I require a more substantial dessert," Arthur's fingers traveled deviously up Yagyuu's legs. He had no idea how the other man was keeping a straight face.
"Oh dear." Toes curling Yagyuu pressed a hand to his lips, hiding his amusement from unobservant eyes. "That sounds dangerous - whatever could sate this ferocious hunger of yours?"
"For now, your mere presence is keeping it under control," Arthur said, pressing a light kiss to Yagyuu's forehead. "Though once I get you alone," he gave the firm thigh a little squeeze, "that might not be the case."
The taxi driver, quite disturbed as it was, pulled up as quickly as possible to Tokyo tower.
"Sirs," he coughed awkwardly. "We've arrived."
"Already?" Yagyuu turned his best version of woeful doe eyes on his companion. "And I was so enjoying driving through the night, just us...
Arthur paid the driver and opened the door. Offering an arm to help Yagyuu out, he said, "Your eyes are breaking my heart, sweetness," he frowned. "Please don't be too sad, we can over the night from the tower."
Sliding up against the other man as if he had been born for it Yagyuu allowed a besotted smile to appear on his face. "As long as we can also watch the sunrise together...." He trailed of with a coy look, pulling away but not without catching Yuushi's hand and tugging him along. "I never want to be apart again." He added a girly giggle for good measure that turned into a throaty chuckle as the driver pulled away from the curb like a bat out of hell.
"Oh my," Arthur could only say, presented with such a lovely, staged expression.
He had never seen a taxi drive off that fast, and as Yagyuu tugged him away, he couldn't help but laugh. "Don't even say the word 'apart,'" Yuushi joked, swinging their hands together. "It makes me nervous."
"True," Arthur conceded, "But do I really have to deal with that reality before the end of our date?"
He allowed Yagyuu to pay, and then they shuffled together into the almost empty elevator.
"I suppose I can leave you with some vestiges of comforting illusions." Yagyuu deliberately smoothed his thumb over Arthur's knuckles while licking his lips. "I would hate to appear heartless."
"That isn't something that you need to fear," Oshitari promised. "As my memories will keep me going until the next time."
The elevator brought them up to the top floor, and Arthur grasped his hand and lead him out.
"Then they better be good memories." Yagyuu murmured, letting the closest he had yet come to a saucy smirk whisper across his lips for a scant moment before following his companion out to look around curiously. "It's impressive you can still use the elevator despite the damage the structure has sustained." He pointed out the next moment, back to the calm, analytical man most perceived him as.
That smirk didn't slip past Arthur's gaze unnoticed. He admired it with his own upturn of lips as they approached the edge. "It speaks highly of its builders. Despite the slight dent, its integrity remains in tact," he ran his fingers down the wrought iron. His smile turned a little sad, when he stretched that metaphor to Japan. It would take a long time for things to be okay again, but they could continue.
"Aa." Resting his hand next to Arthur's Yagyuu stared out into the dim darkness being beaten back by the faint glow of the city lights. The cool wind blowing in was refreshing against his face after the stuffy heat of the taxi and the elevator.
As they stood there together, Arthur was quiet. He watched over the city, secure in the presence of the other man at his side, and wondered how being so tall could make one feel so small.
Next to Arthur Yagyuu quietly slipped a hand in his pocket and withdrew a rarely used box, pulling out a long slender cigarette and a delicately crafted lighter. Inhaling deeply he let the warm smoke fill his lungs before exhaling slowly and watching it waver away from them like a whisp of fog in the night. "These are resillient people, there hasn't been an obstacle they have not yet overcome." He added quietly, his voice like the smoke, low and unobtrusive.
Arthur nodded, letting Yagyuu's words and comforting smoke wash over him. It wasn't too often that words didn't come to him. This was one of those rare occasions.
I'm glad its you that I'm here with, was what he couldn't say. Instead, he draped an arm around Yagyuu's shoulders and stole a drag of his cigarette. "Shouldn't a doctor know better than to smoke?"
"Who says I don't?" Still glancing at the city spread out at their feet Yagyuu smiled slightly, giving in easily and leaning against Yuushi's solid warmth next to him. "But maybe I like it anyways." After all it was one of the habits from the life he had - mostly- left behind that he just didn't manage to shake.
Arthur had several poor habits, but smoking could probably be considered top among them. He refrained from doing so around Yagyuu, because he assumed that smoking in front of a doctor would come with a lecture. At least, all of the pre-med students in university with him would lecture for hours on end.
"I can understand that," he exhaled, watching smoke drift off as he held Yagyuu close. He handed back the cigarette and smiled softly against light brown hair.
"Somehow I thought you might." Shifting to get more comfortable Yagyuu settled on wrapping his own arm loosely around his companion's bony hip. "I suspect we have quite a few things in common."
"Oh?" Arthur said as he settled into their half embrace. "Such as?"
"We are not what people would expect us to be." Was all Yagyuu was willing to say on this point and instead took another drag from his cigarette, the cherry glowing bright, entrancing red for a moment.
Arthur had spent so much time anticipating people's expectations of him and meeting them, that he barely even knew who he was anymore. At least as an imaginary person he could live up to expectation instead of being a disappointment. Oshitari Yuushi didn't have to exist.
"Perhaps you aren't," Arthur pointed out. "But I, on the other hand, are exactly what I am expected to be."
"I doubt that." Turning Yagyuu leaned his back against the railing and gazed thoughtfully at Yuushi. "But I am not going to pry."
Arthur raised a brow and turned his back to the sky, leaning against the railing. "I suppose that leaves me with no choice but to prove you wrong," he smirked.
He could live up to the expectation of being a perfect date, after all.
"What else of Tokyo have you not seen?"
"Most of it I'm afraid. My studies never left me much time to go exploring." Stubbing out his cigarette Yagyuu let it disappear in a small portable ashtray. "Where else would you like to go?"
Considering Yuushi's question for a moment Yagyuu had to bite back a smile as he answered. "Tokyo Disney." It was certainly a nice way to turn the mood back to the levity it had had before they had reached the top
"Truly?" Arthur raised a brow. "Tokyo Disney or Disney Sea?"
Honestly he had never cared enough to know the difference between the two so Yagyuu just shrugged. "Either."
"Well," Arthur explained with a smirk, "Tokyo Disney is somewhere you'd go with your family...and Disney Sea is somewhere you would go with your significant other."
Leaning back against the side, he plucked Yagyuu's cigarette from his mouth to steal a drag. "Perhaps you want to take Oishi-kun to Disney Sea."
"I'm sure he'd love that." To Yagyuu's credit there was only a barely there hint of sarcasm in his voice. "How about you?"
"Would I like to take Oishi-kun?" he blew out some smoke and pretended to look pensive, as he purposefully misunderstood. "Not particularly. He'd have a heart attack on the top of Tower of Terror."
"And where would you like to go?" Yagyuu paraphrased his question to trap Yuushi and extort an answer.
"Me?" Arthur questioned, and turned to face the city. "I like sad movies, the sea, and fresh sushi." He offered Yagyuu his cigarette back, and admired the way the growing darkness highlighted the angles of his handsome face. It was like the mood set of a foreign film.
"I'm easy to please," Arthur promised with a wink.
"Well, I imagine Disney Sea would be a better choice for you." Taking the butt of the cigarette back to take one last drag Yagyuu let his hand dangle over the railing with it.
"Shall we go together then?" Arthur suggested. "It's only a forty minute train ride away."
"Why not." It was after all still early enough in the evening so there was no harm in going to have a look. "Its always a pleasure to travel with you.
"I'll have you right where I want you for a whole forty minutes," Arthur chuckled gleefully, holding out his arm for Yagyuu. "Even better than fireworks, sweetheart."
"I don't know if I should be disappointed that all you want from me is to be on a train with you." Yagyuu quipped after flowing up against Yuushi, the cigarette butt tumbling through the air forgotten.
"Not true," Oshitari pointed out, as he led the way to the elevator. "I also want to watch the fireworks with you, which is vitally important measure of the things I want from Yagyuu Hiroshi."
"Should I grant you both in one night then?" Yagyuu teased, stepping into the brightly lit elevator that seemed cold and sterile after the dark embrace of the cool air outside. "What would I do if you were to grow tired of me?
"That would be absolutely perfect."
Arthur gave him a queer look, as if the very suggestion were completely outrageous. And truly, it was. "If that were to happen, then you should probably go out with someone worth your time of day," noticing they had the elevator to themselves, he leaned over and kissed him on the cheek.
"Ah." Tipping his head up for the kiss Yagyuu smiled a fey smile for a moment. "I suppose I should then." He agreed, slipping his arm around Arthur's waist. "So, a train ride and fireworks then, yes?
"Yes," Arthur murmured, looking down in fascination at Yagyuu's smile. "I think that we will make it just in time."
They could always do the rides another day. For now, he was happy going through faux castles and imaginary lands and watching the fireworks with someone he enjoyed the company of.
"Wonderful." This was certainly shaping up to be a unusual evening and Yagyuu found he was quite looking forward to it. "Lead the way then and I shall follow."
And lead Arthur did, down the tower and to the train station, and then onto the platform where a train would bear them all the way to Chiba.
"You don't have work in the morning, do you?"
"No, I have the late shift tomorrow." So if they ended up very late tonight they could just take a hotel in Chiba and return the next day. "What about you?
"Tezuka doesn't really monitor my comings and goings," Arthur responded truthfully as they boarded the relatively uncrowded train. More people were getting off than on, at this hour of the night. "So as long as my duties are taken care of, no one would notice if I were a little late."
"Good, I'd hate to get you in the trouble with your boss." Stepping on the train Yagyuu moved towards the empty end of the compartment.
Arthur tried to imagine what it would take to get into trouble with Tezuka, and those measures were pretty extensive. Maybe I should try it sometime...
"Don't worry about it," Arthur said, taking a seat in a relatively empty row. "We have all the time in the world."
"You know just what to say." Settling next to Arthur Yagyuu resisted the impish urge to rest a hand on his companion's knee. "I won't feel guilty for keeping you with me all night then."
"A man can try," Arthur took the hand that would have rested on his knee in his own. As they sped through the city, it was nice to have something to hold onto. "When is the last time you saw fireworks?"
"Guy Fawkes the year I left Britain I think." Curling his fingers against Yuushi's Yagyuu remembered some of the past fireworks of his past, the most impressive of which had always been the Chinese New Year. "It's a bit strange to celebrate the day somebody tried to blow up your parliament but they quite enjoy it still."
With a chuckle, Arthur said in lightly accented English, "Everybody loves a rebel." And somehow, fireworks in and of themselves were rebellious. Bursts of fire across an otherwise impenetrable sky had that same capability of stirring hearts and crowds.
"Everyone should see fireworks once a year," he prescribed.
"And where did you last see them?" Tit for tat after all. Yagyuu was only content to bare himself in even such a small way if he could strip his companion likewise. "I wonder why that is."
"Mmm," Arthur pretended to think back, though he remembered quite clearly. "In Mexico, at a friend's son's birthday party." The children's eyes had been so full of wonder, it made him want to lock himself up inside the little shack of a house that he rented and write for days on end. "Everyone needs a little fire in their life, no?" he squeezed Yagyuu's hand teasingly.
After a long moment filled only with the steady rattling of the train's wheels on the tracks Yagyuu nodded, returning the squeeze though his mind seemed miles away "That's true." Fire, a spark, warmth, movement - the opposite of everything he sometimes fathomed himself to be
For a little while, he let Yagyuu be present in his own little world. Then, upon their arrival, he demanded the whole of his doctor's attention. He brought a deft hand to his lips and kissed it gently. "We're here," Arthur said lowly.
The train announced Disney Station.
"Ah?" Blinking behind his glasses at the lips brushing his knuckles Yagyuu nodded then climbed to his feet. "That was quick."
"You just spaced out," Arthur teased, as they left the train. There were huge crowds of people waiting to board. "You're going to need some energy now," he commented quietly, as they made their way to the ticket gates. "We'll be swimming up stream," he paid and they entered Disney's alternate world.
"Better than with the stream." Gripping Yuushi's hand tightly to keep from being separated Yagyuu raised his head to catch the sight of the theme park opening around them above the heads of the crowd
"A man after my own heart," Arthur mock swooned as well as he could while headed opposite to the crowd. Tightly wound hands kept them from being separated, no matter how everyone around them moved.
Looking up at the large clock on an exaggerated tower, Arthur saw that it was almost time.
Stopping half way to their goal Yagyuu tugged at Arthur's hand, motioning for him to come closer so he could be heard over the noise of the crowd. "Let's pick up something to drink before the stalls close."
Following Yagyuu to one of the stands, he agreed, "Good idea. What do you want to drink?"
"I think I'll have a rootbeer float." If they had something like that here.
"Mmm," he thought, as they strolled together to the little stand. "I think that can be arranged."
Fortunately, they caught the stand just before it shut down, and managed to get a root beer float for Yagyuu and a water for Arthur.
Raising his plastic cup Yagyuu tapped it lightly against Arthur's and proposed a polite toast . "To a perfect evening."
"A perfect evening," Arthur grinned, and raised his glass to Yagyuu before taking a swig. "Beers, Fish and Chips, Towers and Fireworks," he screwed the top back onto his water. "And the loveliest doctor I have ever seen."
"Absolutely." Sipping at his straw Yagyuu smiled faintly at the compliment at the end. "Company does make an evening," Now that they had their drinks all that was missing was the fireworks to round off their outing
"And I happen to be with the best," Arthur added. Most of the people who were going to leave the park before the fireworks had done so, and the people who wanted to see them crowded the marina. "It looks like we have two options for fireworks...either join everyone at the water, or we could head for the highest point of the park."
"How about the highest point then." The press of the crowd seemed little inviting especially for enjoying the beauty of the fireworks. "Do we need to hurry?
Checking his watch, Arthur saw that they had a good fifteen minutes. "No, not particularly. We have time, and the show isn't exactly short. And if we head to the highest point, it shouldn't be crowded."
"Good." Although the number of people roaming about had lessened drastically Yagyuu kept his grip on Arthur's hand as the continued on their way to the parks apex. "Have you come here often?"
"Once or twice," Arthur admitted. He only took people he actually liked to Disney Sea; if you didn't like someone, how could you wait in outrageous lines with them? "Though this is the first time I've had the chance to stay for the fireworks."
He had no problem with holding Yagyuu's hand. It made the experience that much better.
"Then I am pleased we can share this together today." Yagyuu allowed himself to comment before falling back into comfortable silence between them, slurping his drink quietly along the way.
"You and me both," he said softly, simply enjoying Yagyuu's company as they proceeded up a large hill. At the very top, their was an unclaimed bench.
Just in time too, because the first cracks of fire broke through the sky.
Sitting on the bench Yagyuu was pleased to stretch his legs out in front of him and tip his head back to watch the explosions of colour painted across the dark canvass of the sky. One hand was still wrapped securely around his cup and the other rested on the bench next to him
Arthur wasted no time in resting his hand on Yagyuu's, though he didn't take his eyes off the fireworks, merely watched through the fake plastic of his glasses.
Between the warm hand under his, and the hot bursts of color across the sky, Yuushi was flooding with inspiration. I'm going to have a lot to write, tonight, he smiled.
It would be a lie to deny that he was content and Yagyuu, despite the many half truths and blatant lies surrounding him didn't make a habit of lying to himself. As such he didn't stop himself from curling his fingers around Arthur's. As above them the fireworks hissed and sparked he allowed a small, private smile to grace his lips.
